The
Chair for Law and Religion and the Department of Criminology of the University
of Louvain at Louvain-la-Neuve (Belgium) announces the opening of: two
doctoral (4 years, full-time) positions starting October
1st,
2008.
The
two doctoral positions concern a research project on religious
fundamentalism
and convictional dogmatism, a large interdisciplinary
project
between psychology (social and developmental), law and
social
criminology). Both positions include successful preparation of a
Ph.D.
Both researchers will work within a larger research team, with 3 PhD
candidates in psychology.

Ø
One doctoral position (for a PhD
in International or Comparative Law) will focus on the legal study of
religious fundamentalism in interpersonal behavior ([limit of] protection of
religious sensitivity, pro-religious and anti-religious hate speech, children
education, religious autonomy …) and requires skills in international human
rights, in comparative law, and in law & psychology studies).
Ø
A second doctoral position will focus on
criminology. It will focus on
the discourses linking Islamic religious fundamentalism and violence and on
their consequences on crime; it requires skills in critical discourse analysis
and criminology.
The
fellowship amounts to a net salary of approx. 1.413 € monthly for
each
of the doctoral positions (tax free with right to Social Security).
Applicants
should have knowledge of French and English, strong
background
in theory and methods of the respective field,
as
well as openness and interest in interdisciplinarity.
